Gamecock Hoops Travel North To Take On SEMO And EIU

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State Women's Basketball team hits the road for the final two games of a four-game road trip against Southeast Missouri State and Eastern Illinois this week.

Jax State takes on Southeast Missouri at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before heading to Charleston, Ill., to battle Eastern Illinois on Saturday at 3 p.m., weather permitting.

This will be the second meeting this season between JSU and Southeast Missouri with the Redhawks claiming an 82-60 win on Jan. 3 in Jacksonville. SEMO owns a 9-1 lead in the series and has won the last nine games.

The Gamecocks are 1-8 through the first half of the Ohio Valley Conference schedule and are 4-15 overall. JSU is looking to end an 11-game road losing streak and a nine-game OVC road skid.

Jolie Efezokhae and Brittany Wiley continue to lead the team in scoring and rebounding. Efezokhae is averaging 14 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest and also leads the team in blocks with 28 and steals with 24. The Lynn, Mass., native enters the week with 975 career points, bidding to become the ninth member of the women's basketball 1,000-point club. Wiley scored 21 and 12 points in two games last week to move her double figure scoring streak to four straight. The Carrollton, Ga., native is averaging 10.2 points and 5.4 boards a game.

Southeast Missouri is 9-10 overall and currently sits in sixth place in the OVC with a 5-4 league mark. The Redhawks fell to league leading Murray State, 80-65, last Saturday in Murray, Ky.

The Redhawks have three players averaging double figures. Tarina Nixon averages 13.4 points and is the top three-point shooter, making 39 percent from behind the arch. Sonya Daugherty follows with 11.7 points per game while Crysta Glenn tosses in 11.3 points and leads the team with 8.6 rebounds per game.

Eastern Illinois will host Tennessee Tech on Thursday before welcoming JSU to Lantz Arena on Saturday. EIU was picked to win the OVC and is currently one game out of first with a 7-2 conference record and a 13-7 overall record.

Rachel Galligan, who scores 15.9 points and pulls down 6.7 rebounds per game leads the Panthers. Ellen Canale follows with 10.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
