WINTER PARK, Fla. –
Todd Cunningham and
Steven Leach each had three hits to lead Jacksonville State to a 10-0 shutout over Bradley at the Russ Matt Invitational on Monday.
JSU's
Austin Lucas (2-1) tossed his first complete-game shutout after allowing just five hits and had five strikeouts to earn his second win of the season. Jacob Booden (0-2) gave up 12 hits to get stuck with the loss for the Braves.
The Gamecocks (9-7) scored two in the first after Cunningham led off with a double down the left field line and
Blake Seguin extended his hitting streak to 14 games with an infield single. Leach then doubled to left to score Cunningham and
Jake Welch had a sacrifice fly to score Seguin and give JSU a 2-0 lead.
Jax State added four runs in the third inning, thanks to a three-run home run by
Daniel Adamson, while
Jake Sharrock also drove in a run to give the Gamecocks a 6-0 lead.
Welch hit his first career home run with a two-run shot in the fourth inning and
Andrew Edge drove in another run as JSU pushed the lead to 9-0 in the fourth inning. Leach added a RBI single in the fifth inning for the final margin.
Matt McLaughlin and Adamson each added a pair of hits as the Gamecocks pounded out 15 in the game. Welch and Adamson each led the team with three RBI.
The Gamecocks will play their final game at the Russ Matt Invitational at 8 a.m., against Hartford on Tuesday, before traveling to face Troy University at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
