Women's Hoops Falls On The Road At Austin Peay, 65-54

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Jacksonville State suffered its first Ohio Valley Conference road loss as it fell 65-54 to Austin Peay on Saturday night in the Dunn Center.

JSU dropped to 7-13 overall and 4-5 in OVC play. APSU pushed its OVC mark to 6-3 and 7-14 on the season.

A cold shooting second half doomed the Gamecocks as they hit just seven of their 35 shots in the final half along with being out-scored 34-22 by APSU. After taking a 32-31 lead into dressing room with a Zenobia Pitts basket right before the buzzer, The Lady Govs opened the final half with a 12-4 run to re-gain the lead for the remainder of the half. APSU connected on 50 percent of its shots in the final period after knocking down just nine in the first half. APSU took its first double digit lead at 52-42 with 7:29 left in the game and eventually pushed the advantage out to as many as 16 points with a minute left in the contest.

APSU claimed the battle of the boards as it pulled down 49 boards to JSU's 34.

JSU junior Destiny Lane turned in her first career double-double with 11 rebounds and ten points. Gamecock senior Candace Carmine made the most of her first start of the season as she led the squad with 16 points along with nine rebounds. JSU's leading scorer, Brittany Wiley was limited to just five points in the contest. After posting a career-high 18 points on Thursday at Tennessee State, senior Zenobia Pitts added ten points in the setback.

Meghan Bussabarger led the Lady Govs with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Jasmine Rayner recorded 11 points, while Dalila Thomas added ten points off the bench.

JSU begins the second half of the OVC slate next Thursday, Jan. 27 at Southeast Missouri. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
