JACKSONVILLE – Setters Alina Agamy and Abbey Heredia each recorded double-doubles for the Jacksonville State volleyball team on Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't enough in a 3-1 (25-18, 26-28, 25-18, 25-21) loss to Tennessee State at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
Heredia, a sophomore from Cary, Ill., had 13 digs and 16 assists, while Agamy, a freshman from Bloomington, Ill., had 11 digs with her 16 assists for the Gamecocks (5-11, 3-3 Ohio Valley Conference), but too many miscues cost them in just their sixth loss to the Tigers (8-5, 4-2 OVC) in 21 meetings.
TSU had 14 service aces and forced JSU's offense into 26 attack errors for a .075 attack percentage, while the Gamecocks also committed 11 errors in the serving game.
In a match that saw both teams dig 84 balls, the Gamecocks had five players with double-digit digs. Sophomore Kelly Cole and junior Hivya Leite each recorded 17 digs, while senior Lauren Harkins added 11. Also on the defensive end, JSU recorded 9.5 blocks, led by four apiece from senior Stephanie Koontz and freshman Nicole Merget.
Koontz had a team-high 13 kills on offense, while Harkins pitched in eight.
The Tigers also had five players in double figures in digs, led by Britani Hathorn's 24 and Terakka Walker's 20. Walker also had nine kills for an offense that was led by Shaquita Williams with 17.
The Gamecocks return to the road, where they will play their next four matches. The swing will start on Tuesday with a 6 p.m. match at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn., and will conclude with three matches in four days next weekend. JSU will face Eastern Kentucky on Friday in Richmond, Ky., and then league-leading Morehead State in Morehead, Ky., on Saturday before traveling to Martin, Tenn., for a Monday meeting with UT Martin.
