
First-Place Morehead State Downs JSU in OVC Volleyball

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Jacksonville State volleyball team dropped the third match of its four-match road swing on Saturday, when first-place Morehead State claimed a 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-21) sweep of the Gamecocks in Ohio Valley Conference action.
The Gamecocks (6-13, 4-5 OVC) held the Eagles (14-5, 9-0 OVC) offense under .300 but couldn't muster enough offense of their own in dropping their second-straight match. With the win, MSU remained unbeaten in league play and pulled two and one-half games ahead of UT Martin in the conference standings.
Sophomore Kelly Cole and senior Lauren Harkins had 11 and nine digs, respectively, for the Gamecock defense, while junior Hivya Leite added seven. Sophomore Lauren Busing also had five digs.
Offensively, freshman Nicole Merget hit .455 but got just 11 swings and recorded six kills. Senior Stephanie Koontz led the way with nine kills on a .227 attack percentage, while freshman Alina Agamy dished out 14 assists.
For Morehead State, setter Caitlin Clark accounted for 31 of her team's 34 assists and pitched in seven digs on the back row, while Laura McDermott led all players with 10 kills on a .500 attack percentage. Liz Schuler and Leslie Schellhaas each picked up 10 digs.
The Gamecocks will conclude its road trip on Monday at 6 p.m., when they take on second-place UT Martin in Martin, Tenn.
