Casey Antley Pitches Gamecocks to 8-2 Win Over SEMO in OVC Tournament

JACKSON, Tenn. – Casey Antley allowed just four hits in six solid innings on the mound to lead Jacksonville State to an 8-2 win over Southeast Missouri on day two of the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Tournament on Thursday.
The Gamecocks improve to 35-21 on the season and advance to the winner's bracket final on Friday evening at 7 p.m., after winning their fifth straight OVC Tournament game. Southeast Missouri State falls to 32-21 on the season after dropping its sixth straight OVC Tournament game.
Antley (3-1) pitched a career-long six innings with a career-high six strikeouts after allowing just four hits to earn the win, while Todd Hornsby picked up his OVC-record 15th save of the season after recording the final four outs. Jordan Underwood (5-1) gave up four runs and seven hits to suffer his first loss of the season for the Redhawks.
The Gamecocks took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Jake Sharrock hit his fifth home run of the season with a solo shot over the right field wall.
Jax State extended the lead to 2-0 after Sharrock scored on a sacrifice fly by Erik Underwood in the third inning, then the Gamecocks tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning on a RBI single by Underwood and a sacrifice fly by Blake Seguin to build a 4-0 lead.
Southeast Missouri cut the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning on a RBI single by Trenton Moses and a sacrifice fly by Louie Haseltine, but the Redhawks could get no closer.
Jax State added four insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning after Sam Eberle drove in two runs with a double down the right field line, a sacrifice fly by Kyle Bluestein and an infield RBI grounder by Underwood for the final margin.
Sharrock, Eberle, Bluestein and Michael Bishop each had a pair of hits to lead the Gamecocks, while Kenton Parmley had three hits to lead SEMO.
Jax State will now face the winner of the Austin Peay-Tennessee Tech game in the winner's bracket final on Friday night, while SEMO will play UT Martin in an elimination game at 11 a.m. on Friday.
