JACKSONVILLE – After opening the new calendar year on the road, the Jacksonville State women's basketball team will usher in the New Year for the first time at home this weekend as they face Tennessee State on Saturday. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
The Gamecocks enter the Ohio Valley Conference weekend on a seven-game losing skid and will be looking to snap that streak and pick up their first conference win of the year against the Lady Tigers of TSU. TSU visits Jacksonville with a 5-10 overall record and 1-2 in league play after falling 114-105 to UT Martin last Monday night.
JSU will be looking for its first win since the Dec 4 home victory over Troy. Jax State has dropped its last two home games against OVC foe Eastern Kentucky and a post-Christmas setback to Georgia State to close out the non-conference slate. JSU is coming off a pair of road losses at OVC newcomer SIUE and at Southeast Missouri last Monday night.
Saturday's afternoon contest will be the 21st meeting between the Gamecocks and Lady Tigers with Jax State holding a 12-8 lead in the series. JSU has won four of the last five contests with TSU that dates back to the 2009-10 season. Jax State claimed the season series in 2009-10 and won on TSU's home floor last January, 77-73. TSU edged JSU last season in Jacksonville with a 58-42 win, but the two teams met a couple of weeks later in the opening round of the 2011 OVC Tournament. JSU held on for a 57-55 win after posting a second half come-from-behind win at Nashville's Municipal Auditorium.

Morrow, who leads the Gamecocks in scoring, has averaged 12 points per game over the first three OVC contests. The Nashville, Tenn.-native made a great impression in her first conference battle against Eastern Kentucky on Dec. 20. Morrow led JSU with 19 points and eight rebounds. Against SIUE and Southeast Missouri, she nearly reached double digits in the scoring column with eight and nine points respectively. Morrow ranks among the OVC scoring leaders in conference games only. Morton, a guard out of Lexington, Ky. has turned up her scoring output since the OVC slate started. Morton, solid from the free throw stripe has connected on 9-of-13 from the line and as a floor general, dished out nine assists. Morton also had a breakout game against EKU as she equaled Morrow's 19-point effort. In her last outing at SEMO, she finished with eight points.
Junior Danielle Vaughn returned to form against SEMO with her fifth double-double of the season with 20 points and 16 rebounds.

the field and posting 76 points in an overtime setback.
Following Saturday's contest with TSU, the Gamecocks return to action on Monday, Jan. 9, hosting OVC front-runner Morehead State. The tip off time for the JSU-MSU contest has been moved to 3 p.m. instead of the original game time of 7 p.m.
