Gamecock Women Run Away With APSU Inviatational Title

FINAL RESULTS
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team turned in a 299, the best team score of the tournament, on Tuesday to win the F&M Bank APSU Invitational by 15 shots at the par-72, 5,879-yard Clarksville Country Club.
All five JSU players finished in the top 10, with three Gamecocks tying for fourth, to claim Jax State's first team win of the season in an event that featured six Ohio Valley Conference schools. Freshman Melania Bajo Geijo, sophomore Maya Parsons and senior Ornella Arrizon each shot a seven-over 151 over the 36-hole event to tie for fourth place in the 62-player field.
The Gamecocks led OVC rival Morehead State by eight shots after Monday's first round and ran away from the field on Tuesday. They wound up the 10-team tournament with the two best 18-hole scores and, with five players in the top 10, were the only team that had all players finish in the top 20.
Bajo Geijo, a freshman from Neuquen, Argentina, bounced back from an opening round 80 on Monday to card a one-under 71 on Tuesday, the only round under par by any player during the tournament. Prior to Tuesday's 71, Bajo Geijo had yet to break 80 in her young JSU career.
She tied for fourth with Parsons and Arrizon, both players that have had success in their careers. Parsons, a native of Whitby, Ontario, answered Monday's 76 with a final-round 75 that gave her a 36-hole score of 151. Arrizon, the reigning OVC Individual Champion, was tied for the lead after an opening round 73, but the Mexico City, Mexico, native used a 78 to hang on in the top five.
Senior Luz Armijo-Fenandez turned in a 79 on Tuesday and finished tied for seventh with a two-day score of 152, while freshman Melani Sisto claimed her first Top 10 finish with a 36-hole score of 154. Sisto opened the event with a 79 but rallied with a 75 in Tuesday's final round.
Morehead State's Marisa Kamelgarn won the medalist honors after a 36-hole score of 147.
The Gamecocks return to the links on Monday, when they will compete in the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raider Invitational at Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
