JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's basketball game against Morehead State is still scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday at Pete Mathews Coliseum. JSU Students and fans ages 18 and under get in free.
The Gamecocks continue a three-game homestand on Thursday with a prime time game against Morehead State, who has been a surprise in the Ohio Valley Conference's East Division race. Picked third in the preseason poll, the Eagles find themselves in second and just two games out of first with six remaining.
Jax State hopes to hinder any MSU plans to climb the standings, avenge a Feb. 1 loss in Morehead, Ky., and snap a three-game losing streak all at the same time. JSU dropped the first game of the homestand on Saturday against Tennessee Tech, a game that saw the Gamecocks shoot just under 30 percent from the floor and 2-for-16 from behind the 3-point line.
MSU, on the other hand, upended rival Eastern Kentucky on the road on Saturday, a win that allowed the Eagles to climb into their current spot in the standings.
In the previous meeting between the two, JSU jumped out to a fast start before a second-half shooting slump allowed MSU to pull ahead and hang on for the 65-54 win. Junior Avery Moore scored 13 to lead JSU, while junior D.J. Felder added 12 points and six rebounds. The Eagles got 14 points from Angelo Warner and 10 apiece from Greg Dotson and Billy Reader.
Junior Darion Rackley currently leads JSU in scoring with 12.7 points per game, with senior Brian Williams pitching in 11.8 per outing.
The Eagles are getting 17.6 points per game from Warner, while Brent Arrington and Chad Posthumus are also in double figures. MSU leads the OVC in rebounding margin at +8.8 and has only been outrebounded once this season, at Tennessee.
JSU will continue to monitor the weather, and if any changes are made they will be posted at www.jsugamecocksports.com and on the JSU Athletics social media outlets.
