Bajo Geijo Finishes 4th, Gamecocks 5th at Kiawah Island

FINAL RESULTS
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team shot its second 309 in as many days on Tuesday to finish fifth in the 36-team Kiawah Island Intercollegiate, the largest collegiate tournament in the country.
The Gamecocks' final-round 309 came on the par-72, 6,001-yard Cougar Point Golf Course and gave them a 54-hole total of 910. Sophomore Melania Bajo Geijo wrapped up her tournament with a three-over 75 to cap a 222 and tie for fourth place in the 192-player field.
No. 37 Kent State won the event with a 10-over 892, just ahead of Penn State and High Point, respectively. Chattanooga finished fourth, two shots ahead of JSU. Boston College's Katia Joo and KSU's Wad Phaewchimplee tied for medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 220, just two shots ahead of Bajo Geijo.
A native of Neuquen, Argentina, Bajo Geijo shot a 73 in Sunday's opening round, a 74 on Monday and then finished with the Tuesday 75. Her 222 was five shots better than anyone else in the JSU lineup, which placed three players in the top 25 on the individual leaderboard. She bounced back after a rough front nine on Tuesday, playing the back nine at 2-under par.
Freshman Anne Albrecht had JSU's low round of the day with a one-over 73, one that catapulted her into a tie for 22nd. The final round was a strong finish for the Winsen, Germany, native that opened with a 75 and 79, respectively. She finished the tournament with a 54-hole score of 227. Junior Maya Parsons also tied for 22nd with Albrecht after a final-round 80 gave her a 54-hole score of 227.
Sophomore Melani Sisto shot 82 on Tuesday and finished tied for 66th, while freshman Angie Varona's final-round 81 left her tied for 86th.
The JSU women's next tournament begins March 15 at the Pinehurst Challenge at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C.
