Griff Gordon Drafted by New York Yankees in 27th Round of MLB Draft

Senior Griff Gordon was drafted in the 27th round by the New York Yankees in the 2014 Major League Baseball draft on Saturday.

Gordon set the school's single-season record by becoming the first player in school history to record 100 hits, breaking Clay Whittemore's record of 96 hits. He is just one of four players in NCAA Division I baseball to record triple digits in hits this season. He also set the school record with 263 at-bats this season.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to continue my baseball career," said Gordon. "The New York Yankees are the most storied franchise in major league baseball, and I couldn't be more excited about this opportunity."

The Alexander City, Alabama, native was named to the All-Ohio Valley Conference second-team and also to the OVC All-Tournament team after leading the Gamecocks to their fourth Ohio Valley Conference Tournament title and a berth into the NCAA Regionals at Ole Miss.

Gordon led the team in batting average (.380), at-bats (263), hits (100) and runs scored with 55. He also had 29 walks and only struck out 19 times in 263 at-bats.

Gordon becomes the 17th player to be drafted under JSU head coach Jim Case and was one of 39 players drafted by the Yankees in this year's draft. Jax State has had at least one players picked in every MLB draft since 2007.
