Gamecock Soccer Falls to Eastern Kentucky

JACKSONVILLE – Eastern Kentucky erased a halftime deficit with a pair of goals in the second half to spoil Jacksonville State's regular season finale on Sunday with a 2-1 win on Sunday at the JSU Soccer Field.

The loss drops Jax State to 7-9-1 on the season and 4-4-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play with one final match in the regular season on Thursday in Nashville, Tennessee against Belmont.  The Gamecocks enter the final weekend in a tie for fourth place with Southeast Missouri with 13 points.  JSU will need a win or a draw coupled with a loss by the Redhawks for the right to host SEMO in the opening round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.  SEMO travels to UT Martin to wrap up the regular season on Thursday.

EKU closed out the 2015 season on a high note with the road win in Jacksonville and improved to 4-14 overall and 4-6 in the OVC.

JSU, who did not play on Friday, turned in a strong first half performance that saw it post 10 of the 16 total shots in the first half.  The Gamecocks scored in the 28th minute after Kelsey Bright connected on a shot that deflected off the left post from a corner kick to register her fourth goal of the season and her 26th of her career.

EKU quickly equalized after the halftime break as Monica Rios drilled a shot that was cleared off of a corner kick in the 47th minute.  After 10 chances in the first 45 minutes, the Colonels limited JSU offensively with just six shots.  EKU's Haley Kemper tallied the game-winning goal in the 59th minute after taking a cross from Logan Harvey.  Kemper sailed the ball past JSU's Caroline Robinson just inside the left post.

The Gamecocks had a few chances to even the contest in the final 20 minutes, but could not get the ball in the back of the net.  EKU goalkeeper Anna Hall had five saves in the contest, while Robinson finished with three.

Bright inched closer to becoming the program's all-time leader in career shots.  The Kingwood, Texas native had four on Sunday to being her career total to 205.  Former Gamecock Jackie Rush owns the all-time mark with 210 career shots.

The JSU-Belmont match is set for Thursday, October 29 at BU's E.S. Rose Park in Nashville.  Match time is set for 7 p.m.
