Ryan Sebra Earns OVC Co-Player of the Week Honor

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Jacksonville State senior Ryan Sebra was honored by the Ohio Valley Conference on Tuesday as the Co-OVC Player of the Week after a stellar week at the plate and helping the Gamecocks to three wins during the week.

Sebra shared the weekly award with Belmont's Drew Ferguson, who had drove in eight runs throughout the week for the Bruins.

Sebra capped off the four-game week by hitting for the cycle in Monday's series-clinching 12-5 win at Austin Peay.  Sebra's day started with a two-run blast just inside the right field foul pole to give Jax State a 2-0 lead in the second.  The Ormond Beach, Florida-native drilled a triple to center in the third inning and posted a bunt single in the fifth.  He completed the cycle with a leadoff double to start the final frame.  He became the first Gamecock to hit for the cycle since former JSU standout Robby Goodson accomplished the feat on March 9, 2004 against Toledo.  Sebra is the first OVC player to complete the cycle since Tennessee Tech's Brandon Thomasson on March 26 of last season.

He collected 10 hits in 17 plate appearances over the four-game span and had nine of the 10 off of APSU pitching and finished week hitting .588.  In the series in Clarksville, Tennessee alone, Sebra was 9-for-13 with four RBI and had multiple hits in all three games against the Govs.  The third baseman/pitcher turned in a slugging percentage of 1.154 and an on-base mark of .667.

Sebra becomes the second Gamecock this season to earn the league's weekly honor as freshman Clayton Daniel was tabbed the conference's top performer for the week of March 2.

JSU will travel to Montgomery on Wednesday to face Alabama State for its first midweek road test.  First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on the ASU campus.  The game will be aired on the Gamecock Sports Network and streamed online at JSUGamecockSports.com.  The Gamecocks return to OVC next weekend, hosting Eastern Illinois at Rudy Abbott Field.
