JACKSONVILLE – Former Jacksonville State women's basketball standout Miranda Cantrell will get a chance to continue her playing days as she signed a professional contract with DJK Brose Bamburg, a club in the Beko Basketball Bundesliga.

Cantrell, who closed out a solid four-year career with the Gamecocks this past season, finalized the deal in late July and will head overseas on August 17 to prepare for the upcoming season.  Cantrell exited the JSU program ranked fifth all time in career rebounds with 620 in four seasons along with posting 867 total points (8.0 career average) as a Gamecock.  The College Park, Georgia-native played in 113 games in the red and white and started in 102 of those contests. 

"The team started to show some interest in me in early July and they selected me among some other players that they were interested, so I am glad they selected me," said Miranda Cantrell.  "I am very excited about continuing my career overseas and it will be a new experience for me because I have never been outside of the country."

She becomes the third female basketball athlete from Jax State to play professional basketball overseas.  Cantrell becomes the seventh player tutored by Rick Pietri to extend their playing career in professional hoops.  She joins Tracy Broom and Shanika Freeman who previously extended their playing careers overseas.

"I am extremely happy that Miranda (Cantrell) is getting this opportunity to play professionally in Europe. Her hard work, unselfishness, and devotion to our program has yielded a chance to both continue playing basketball as well as gain a wonderful life experience living in Germany," said Rick Pietri.  "I'm sure Miranda will represent herself and the Gamecock nation extremely well."
DJK Brose Bamburg went 23-4 last year and lost in the group finals.
