JSU Drops In-State Battle With Alabama

TUSCALOOSA – The Jacksonville State soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Alabama on Sunday evening to close out the non-conference portion of the 2015 season.

The Crimson Tide produced both goals in the opening half and quieted JSU's offense throughout the in-state battle.  JSU dropped to 3-5 on the season, while UA improved to 4-4-2 overall.  The Gamecocks will now turn their attention to the Ohio Valley Conference slate that begins on Thursday, Sept. 24 against Morehead State at the JSU Soccer Field.

UA's Cecila Jimenez scored her first of two goals in the match in the 12th minute as she converted a cross from Emma Welch.  Jimenez came closer to a hat trick in the 40th minute as she netted a deflected ball in front of the net.  Jimenez and Lacey Clarida turned in a match-high eight shots.

The Crimson Tide, who finished with 38 total shots, collected 25 in the opening half.  Jax State sophomore goal keeper Caroline Robinson was active throughout the contest with 10 saves.  It is the second time this season that the Hendersonville, Tenn. native has accumulated double figure saves.  Robinson also had 10 earlier this season at Middle Tennessee.  The Gamecocks were limited to just a pair of shots in the first 45 minutes, but added four in the second half, including a pair of on goal opportunities.  Freshman Claire Petersen and senior Courtney Hurt finished with two shots each and both had shots on goal in the second half.

The Gamecocks battled the Tide to a scoreless final 45 minutes and will look to keep that momentum in to Thursday's OVC led lifter against Morehead State.

JSU and the Eagles of MSU will get underway at 7 p.m. at the JSU Soccer Field.  Admission is free to all home matches.  The Gamecocks will close out the first weekend of conference play on Sunday, Sept. 27, hosting Tennessee Tech.
