
Kukkonen Paces Gameock Women at Little Rock

FINAL RESULTS
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. – Karina Kukkonen paced the Jacksonville State women's golf team at the Little Rock Women's Golf Classic, finishing sixth and leading JSU to an 11th-place finish.
The sophomore from Oulu, Finland turned in a 56-hole score of 221 in the event held at the Diamante Country Club, finishing the 86-player field at 5-over par and only three shots off of a three-way tie for medalist honors between June Ting of UTEP, Central Arkansas' Brenda Gonzalez and UMKC's Cynthia Diaz.
Kukkonen capped the three-day event with a 1-over 73 on Tuesday, after opening on Sunday with a 72 and shooting 76 in Monday's second round. She tied for sixth with Alisa Rodriguez of UTEP and Houston Baptist's Kaity Cummings.
True freshman Layne Dyar had her best competition round in her JSU career on Tuesday to cap the best tournament for the White Plains, Ala., native. Dyar capped the three-day tournament with a 74, putting the finishing touches on a 54-hole score of 231 that tied her for 35th in the event.
Sophomore Valentina Giraldo tied for 54th after a Tuesday 77 capped a 54-hole total of 236, while greshman Pia Ohlenbusch used an 82 on Tuesday to finish a 240 that tied her for 71st. Freshman Chloe Borders wrapped her first event in the JSU lineup in 84th after a final-round 83 gave her a three-day total of 255.
The Gamecocks shot 927 for the 54-hole event that was won by Central Arkansas. UTEP finished second in the 16-team field, six shots behind the Bears.
The event wraps up the fall schedule for the Gamecocks, who will return to action in the spring.
