
Gamecocks Begin Three-Game Road Trip Friday at ULM

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- The Jacksonville State men's basketball team embarks on a six-day, three-game road trip Friday afternoon as it visits ULM on Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest.
Jacksonville State (5-4) goes into the matchup with a 4-1 record in its last five games. Despite a 72-69 loss at Samford on Sunday, the Gamecocks are off to their best start since the 2014-15 season. With its lone home game coming against Dalton State, four of JSU's five wins have come away from Pete Mathews Coliseum.
Senior Erik Durham leads the way for the Gamecocks, averaging 13.2 points per game. The guard is one of five to score double-digits in multiple games this season, totaling eight games of 10-or-more points, and has hit a conference-best 30 3-pointers. He is also tops in the Ohio Valley Conference with a .566 3-point field goal percentage.
ULM (2-5) enters the weekend following a 79-52 loss in the Scenic City. The Warhawks are 1-4 in their last five games, edging out Stephen F. Austin 77-72 at home on Nov. 28 for their second win of the season.
The Gamecocks continue their road trip with a flight to Maryland following the ULM visit. JSU takes on the Terps at 6 p.m. on ESPNU on Dec. 12 before wrapping up the journey in Washington D.C. on Dec. 14 at Howard University.

NOTEWORTHY
• Five Gamecocks scored in double-figures Sunday at Samford, accomplishing a feat that had not been seen in 28 games. Greg Tucker (20), Ashton Spears (14), Malcolm Drumwright (13), Erik Durham (10) and Christian Cunningham (10) became the first group of five to score 10-or-more points in a single game since Dec. 5 2015.
• A four-game winning streak came to an end in JSU's loss to Samford. It was the first time in 14 games JSU had been able to string twoor-more wins together. It is also the first time since the 2014-15 season the Gamecocks had won four games in a row.
• Birmingham native Ashton Spears tallied a career-high 14 points at Samford, logging 15 minutes of play. The freshman fueled a 7-0 run with seven points late in the first half to bring the Gamecocks within one point of the Bulldogs' lead.
• Three Gamecocks are averaging double-digit scoring through nine games. Erik Durham (13.2), Norbertas Giga (11.6) and Malcolm Drumwright (10.9) lead the charge and have also registered multiple games in double figures. Durham has scored 10-or-more in a team-best eight games.
• The Gamecocks topped Alabama State 72-69 Nov. 29 at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. Prior to the Tuesday matchup, JSU's last win over the Hornerts was a 78-65 victory at the Pete Mathews Cloiseum on November 19, 2011. The last time JSU won a game at the Acadome was the 1997-98 season when Head Coach Bill Jones defeated the Hornets 82-80 in overtime.
• The Gamecocks enjoyed a 2-0 weekend in Las Vegas, Nev., Nov. 24-26 at the Global Sports Classic hosted by UNLV. JSU picked up wins over Cal State Fullerton (61-38) and Northern Arizona (76-63). Jacksonville State's all-time record in the tournament is 4-4, last participating in 2012-13. It is 4-0 in Thomas & Mack Center, but 0-4 at hosting university sites.
• Erik Durham came away with some gold following the Global Sports Classic in Last Vegas, earning a spot on the all-tournament team. The senior totaled 33 points on the weekend and knocked down 10 3-pointers (10-for-15) over the two-day trip. Including the preliminary games at TCU and Western Kentucky, Durham put up a four-game total 62 points in the Global Sports Classic.
