
Gamecock Women Finish 2nd at Mimosa Hills

FINAL RESULTS
MORGANTON, N.C. – Senior Melania Bajo Geijo shot a 1-under 71 on Monday to lead the Jacksonville State women's golf team to a second-place finish at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate.
A native of Neuquen, Argentina, Bajo Geijo used one of just three under par scores in the two-day event to climb into a tie for sixth in the field of 83 golfers on the 6,098-yard layout at the Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club. The Gamecocks finished one shot behind host Appalachian State in the 14-team event.
Bajo Geijo turned in a 36-hole score of 149, just two shots behind medalist Courtney Tolton of Longwood. The second-place finish ties her career best finish.
Freshman Valentina Giraldo also had a big day on Monday, turning in a 1-over 73 to cap a two-day 150 and tie for eighth place. Sophomore Natalia Azcue tied for 11th after her 79 on Monday finished a 151.
Freshman Karina Kukkonen tied for 32nd after a Monday 82 put the finishing touches on a two-day score of 158, while junior Angie Varona's 82 finished a 165 that tied for 58th.
The Gamecocks wrap up their preparations for the Ohio Valley Conference Championship, which will be held at Hampton Cove in Huntsville from April 18-20.
