
Giraldo Leads Gamecocks to Sixth at Little Rock Classic

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. – Led by junior Valentina Giraldo's five-over 221, the Jacksonville State women's golf team scored a sixth-place finish in the field of 15 at the Little Rock Golf Classic held at the Diamante Country Club.
Giraldo pieced together rounds of 72-76-73 to finish runner-up among the 81 competitors. She entered the final 18 holes tied for fourth, and surpassed the three individuals ahead of her, but was bested by Missouri State's Verena Gimmy who's round-low 71 earned her the individual title by a single stroke. As a team, the Bears jumped from fourth to first on the final day to card a three-day total of 908, beating Central Arkansas by three shots.
Ana Perez Altuna finished 31st in the tournament. After carding 77 and 74 through the first 36 holes, the freshman slipped with an 81 on the final day to finish plus-16. Paula Vega and Valentina Curet were both two strokes back at plus-18 to tie for 34th overall. Sophomore Pia Ohlenbusch rounded out JSU's performance with placing 47th.
Behind MSU and UCA in the team standings, UTEP finished third with a 913, followed immediately by Sam Houston State (914), Houston Baptist (915) and JSU at 916. Host Little Rock, dropped from eighth to 11th on the final day to finish with a three-day total of 937.
