
Gamecock Women Finish 14th at Amelia Island

FINAL RESULTS
FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team finished 14th in the Jacksonville University Amelia Island Collegiate that wrapped up on Tuesday.
The Gamecocks finished the 54-hole event with a final-round 301, their best score of the tournament, to finish 14th in the field with a total score of 915. Mercer won the 18-team event on the par-72, 6,029-yard Amelia National Golf Club with an 873.
The Bears edged second-place Campbell by three shots. The Camels' Annelie Sjoholm carded a 54-hole score of 210 to win the 96-player field by one shot.
The Gamecocks were led by sophomore Valentina Giraldo, who turned in her best round of the tournament on Tuesday. Her final-round 72 propelled her five spots into a tie for 13th on the individual leaderboard. Her total score of 221 left her one shot out of the top 10.
Sophomore Karina Kukkonen tied for 32nd after her final-round 79 gave her a two-day total of 226. Freshman Pia Ohlenbusch used her best round of the event on Tuesday, a final-round 73, to jump 16 spots into 60th with a 233.
Sophomore Paula Vega shot her second-straight 77 to shoot a 54-hole 236 that tied her for 66th, while Angie Varona's 79 capped a 241 and put her in 85th place.
JSU returns to action on Feb. 26, when the Gamecocks open play at the Kiawah Island Collegiate on the Osprey Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C.
