RICHMOND, Ky. – The Jacksonville State volleyball team fell in four sets (22-25, 25-20, 12-25, 20-25) to Eastern Kentucky Saturday afternoon inside McBrayer Arena on the campus of EKU.
Yhe Gamecocks dropped to 1-3 in Ohio Valley Conference play after their fourth-straight road match to begin league action. The Colonels improved to 3-1 in the OVC, and continue their stretch of home court dominance with their fifth straight win over JSU in Richmond.
The Colonels used a 7-1 run to break away from a 13-13 game to gran a commanding lead late in the opening set. JSU fought back from down 22-17 to even the score with five-straight points, but an EKU timeout broke the momentum and allowed the home team to take the first set, 25-22.
The two sides battled point-for-point again in the second, this time all the way to a 15-all tie. The longest rally of the afternoon was won by JSU as Ludtke was finally avke to find an opening on the court to put a ball away to give JSU a confidence-boosting 16-15 lead. From there, JSU doubled EKU's points to win 25-20 and even the match heading into the break.
The Colonels made a statement about protecting their home court in the third set, running away with a 25-12 victory. EKU maintained the momentum in the third en route to a 25-20 set win in the fourth to seal the match three sets to one.
After an unfriendly schedule forced the Gamecocks on the road for the first four matches of league play, JSU will finally get to play at home next weekend when it hosts Tennessee State and Belmont.
