
Gamecocks Finish Eighth At Palmetto Intercollegiate

FINAL RESULTS
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team played its best round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Tuesday, grabbing an eighth-place finish in the event.
The Gamecocks shot a 293 in Tuesday's final round, nine shots better than their previous low of the tournament, to cap a 54-hole 901 on the par-72, 6,005-yard Turtle Point Golf Course. They finished eighth out of 18 teams in the three-day tournament.
After senior Paula Vega led the charge on Monday, it was a freshman's turn on Tuesday. Claire Vermette shot an even-par 72 in her final round, wrapping up a three-day score of 223. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native climbed into a tie for 24thin the 93-player field.
Vega tied for 34thfor JSU after a final-round 77 put the finishing touches on her 54-hole score of 226.
Sophomore Ana Perez Altuna finished her week with a solid final round, carding a one-over 73 on Tuesday to cap a 227 that tied her for 40thin the field. Junior Pia Ohlenbusch did the same, finishing strong with a 74 that helped her jump eight spots in the leaderboard into a tie for 48th.
Junior Chloe Borders rounded out the JSU lineup with a solid finish of her own, shooting 74 and climbing nine spots into a tie for 67thwith a three-day score of 236.
College of Charleston won the event, while the Cougars' Victoria Huskey and Clarissa von Stosch finished in a three-way tie with Campbell's Emily Hawkins for medalist honors.
The Gamecocks will conclude their fall schedule next week at the UALR Women's Golf Classic. The tournament will be played at the Diamante Country Club in Hot Springs Village, Ark., and will begin on Sunday.
