
Gamecock Women Finish Sixth At Amelia Island

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team finished sixth in the Jacksonville University Amelia Island Collegiate on Tuesday.
The Gamecocks shot a final-round 303 to close a 54-hole 920 on the Amelia Island Golf Club, claiming the sixth-place finish in the 16-team field. North Florida won the two-day tournament by 11 shots over Florida Gulf Coast, while UNF's Mindy Herrick and Florida Gulf Coast's Laura Edmonds tied for medalist honors in the 86-player field.
Claire Vermette was JSU's top finisher after a final-round 73 capped her three-round score of 225. The freshman from St. Petersburg, Fla., tied for 12th, only six shots off the leaders. She shot rounds of 76 and 74, respectively, on Monday before climbing the leaderboard on Tuesday with her best round.
Senior Paula Vega's tie for 25th was the result of a 54-hole score of 229. The native of Medellin, Colombia, closed her tournament with a 77 after shooting 79 and 73 in Monday's first and second rounds.
Sophomore Valentina Curet shot 75 on Tuesday, capping a 230 that tied her for 27th. Ana Perez Altuna's 238 put the finishing touches on a 238 that tied her for 53rd, while a 78 by Pia Ohlenbusch tied her for 57th with a 240.
The Gamecocks will be back in Jacksonville, Fla., on March 4-5, when they play in the UNF Collegiate at the Jacksonville Golf & CC.
