JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State volleyball team continues its three-match homestand this weekend hosting Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State.
Into the second half of the Ohio Valley Conference season, JSU (12-12, 4-6 OVC) has faced 10 of the other 11 league members and embarks on its second round of meetings in the home-and-away series. The Gamecocks opened the conference season on the road at EKU and MSU in late September, falling in five sets to both opponents.
Friday night the Gamecocks begin the weekend action against EKU (3-19, 2-8 OVC). The Colonels evened the all-time series record, 16-16, with its victory earlier this season, but have failed to win in Jacksonville since 2015. Friday is also "Halloween Night" for the Gamecocks where fans are encouraged to wear their favorite Halloween costume or themed outfit. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, JSU will celebrate its annual "Pink Out" game with pink accessories for the players and staff. JSU will host MSU (16-7, 7-3) at 2 p.m. that afternoon. The Eagles entered last weekend tied for first in the league standings, but stumbled to a second during their roadswing to the league's Illinois members. MSU is one of three OVC schools to hold a series advantage lead over JSU as the Eagles have won 17 of the 30 all-time meetings.
Jax State expects a healthy lineup to hit the floor this weekend after the Gamecocks spent most of the first half of the conference slate with one or more pieces sidelined at various times. With six matches remaining in the regular season, JSU sits in the final spot to make the OVC Tournament.
