JACKSONVILLE – The wait is over! The Jacksonville State women's basketball will welcome Georgia State to Pete Mathews Coliseum on Saturday at 2 p.m., in the Gamecocks' return to Pete Mathews Coliseum following the damage from the March 19 tornado that struck JSU's campus.
Â
Jax State (5-3) brings a three-game winning streak into The Pete, a place where it's had a lot of a success under head coach Rick Pietri, who just clinched his 300th carreer win at Alabama A&M on Wednesday. The Panthers will also carry some momentum into Saturday's contest coming off an overtime win over Kennesaw State on Thursday night.
Â
The matchup marks the 30th edition of JSU and GSU meeting on the hardwood. The Gamecocks have historically not fared well in the series with the Atlanta-based Panthers owning a 24-5 advantage. But JSU will look to flip the script with a talented mix of youth and experience. The previous win for JSU came in January of 2003 when both schools were members of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Â
Senior Destiney Elliott leads JSU offensively, but it was senior Rayven Pearson who had a team-high 10 points at AAMU on Wednesday in her 25th career double-digit performance. The Hazel Green, Ala., native surpassed 600 career points against the Bulldogs, and already ranks sixth on the school's career rebounding list with 628. Junior Chloe Long cleaned up the boards with 10 rebounds against AAMU, and had a season-high nine points as JSU came from behind in the second half for the second game in a row to win.
Â
Saturday's game will air on ESPN+ at 2 p.m. with Mickey Shadrix and Gerhard Mathangani on the call. Streaming and live stats links can be found at JSUGamecockSports.com. Â
