OXFORD, Ala. – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Tennessee Tech Thursday afternoon at the Oxford Sports Complex.
 
The Gamecocks (13-3, 3-1 OVC) took the Golden Eagles (7-10, 4-0 OVC) to three sets in four of the six individual matchups but came up empty-handed in the close contests. Paolo Cucalon claimed Jacksonville State's lone point of the day, winning his singles matchup with Gonzalo Garcia at No. 5 (6-2, 6-1).
 
JSU came up just short of the doubles point to begin the day, falling in two of the three sets. Aljaz Kaplja and Cucalon won 6-2 at No. 3 over Garcia and Eduardo Mena, but a 6-3 defeat at No. 1 and tight 7-5 loss at No. 2 secured the point for the Golden Eagles.
 
Tennessee Tech moves into first place in the OVC standings going into the final weekend of regular-season play, while Jacksonville State drops to second place with the loss. The Gamecocks now look to matchups with Belmont and Tennessee State on the road April 13 and April 14, respectively, to close out the season before competing in the Ohio Valley Conference Championships on April 20.
