JACKSONVILLE – Samford broke a 1-1 double overtime deadlock in the 108th minute with the game-winning goal and a 2-1 decision over Jacksonville State on Friday night at the JSU Soccer Field.

The Gamecocks wrapped up a three-match homestand against in-state foes after falling to North Alabama a week ago and posted a scoreless draw last Tuesday against Troy.  JSU dropped to 2-3-2 overall and will wrap up the non-conference slate on Sunday in Macon, Georgia against the Bears of Mercer.  Match time is set for 12 p.m. CST.

Korie Sanders delivered both goals for the visiting Bulldogs as she equalized with her first connection in the 72nd minute and collected the game winner with just under two minutes left in the contest. 

The Gamecocks struck first with a goal by senior Madison Carruthers in the 51st minute.  The scoring play was set up my sophomore Lindsay Albani and redshirt freshman Abigail Martinez.  Martinez was making her second consecutive start after being inserted in to the line up against Troy.  Albani was also credited with a shot in the match.  Carruthers netted her first of the season and the first of her career in the Red and White.  The Frankford, Ontario, Canada native led JSU with three total shots.

SU controlled the tempo throughout the game with a 23-6 advantage in total shots, including a balanced attack with eight in the first 45 minutes and nine in the second half.  The Bulldogs added three shots in each of the two extra sessions.  Senior Claire Petersen, junior Naida Plawiuk registered shots in the loss.
