JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State women's basketball team travels to Kentucky this weekend for Ohio Valley Conference road contests at Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State.
The Gamecocks (7-9) begin the Bluegrass State swing at Eastern Kentucky on Thursday. The Colonels (2-15) are set to host JSU at 5 p.m. (ET/ 4 CT) off campus at Berea College's Seabury Center. The move comes as a result of EKU's McBrayer Arena already occupied for local high school games. In the 33rd meeting between the two schools, with EKU leading the all-time series, 20-12, Thursday's game will be the first time the two have met outside of one another's home arena.
JSU looks to continue its early season success on the road and break its three-game skid in conference play. The Gamecocks are 5-2 on its opponent's home floor this year, and have won six of the last eight against the Colonels overall.
On Saturday, JSU will continue its road trip to Morehead State for a 1 p.m. (ET) tipoff against the Eagles who Jax State beat three times a season ago, including a first-round win in the OVC Tournament.
Senior Destiney Elliott continues to lead JSU with an 11.0 scoring average, however sophomore Taylor Hawks 9.3 points per game is tops for the Gamecocks through six league games. JSU is allowing just 58.0 points oer game against OVC opponents for the second-best scoring defense in the conference, and could improve that mark against EKU who's only averaging less than 54 points per contest.
