Gamecock Soccer Finishes Season With Setback at UT Martin

MARTIN, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State soccer team wrapped up the 2019 season with a 4-0 setback to UT Martin on Sunday on the Skyhawks' pitch.

The Gamecocks finished the season 4-14 overall and 1-9 in Ohio Valley Conference play.  UTM capped the regular season at 8-5-5 and 6-2-2 against the OVC.  The Skyhawks earned the No. 3 seed in the OVC Soccer Tournament.

UTM took the lead in the final moments of the opening half as Jill Hildreath netted a shot in the 44th minute.  The Skyhawks expanded the lead early in the second half with a goal by Alice Adams in the 51st minute and took advantage of a penalty kick in the 55th minute.  UTM's Bella Roberts was credited with the goal on the penalty kick.  Sophia Mankowski finished the scoring with a goal in the 78th minute.

"I thought it was a good first half performance.  We were unlucky to be a goal down at halftime," said head coach Neil Macdonald.  "I think our legs gave out in the second half.  We were down to 12 players today, so fatigue played a big part in the score line."

UTM finished with a 25-7 advantage in total shots, including 13 on goal chances.  JSU's Morgan Lerch was credited with nine saves in the contest.

Freshman Cynthia Bagozzi paced JSU with three shot attempts, while senior Cheyenne Carden, junior Auset Gibbs, junior Alicia Pallister and sophomore Reilly Kucko added a shot.

Sunday's match marked the final matches for seven Gamecock seniors – Rachel Blanding, Danelle Lindo, Kalea Romano, Adrianna Karpa, Nadia Plawiuk, Emma Meadows and Carden.
