Women's Basketball Hosts Fort Valley State in Sunday Matchup - Jacksonville State University Athletics

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State women's basketball team returns home on Sunday to face Fort Valley State at 2 p.m.

The Gamecocks (2-3) look get back on track in the friendly confines of Pete Mathews Coliseum, where they picked up the first two wins of the year. On the road, JSU has struggled with an early 0-3 start.

Junior Taylor Hawks leads Jax State with 13.2 points per game following a career-high 23 at Alabama State on Wednesday. The Gamecocks fell to the Hornets, 68-63 in the final minutes of that last contest. Destiney Elliott is also averaging a dozen points a game, and a team-best 5.4 rebounds. Around the rim, redshirt-senior Chloe Long has six blocks to begin the year.

Sunday's afternoon meeting will be the third all-time game between the two schools, but the first in JSU's Division I era. JSU won 77-70 during the 1977-78 season, and dropped 94-89 shootout to the Wildcats in 1994 in the most recent meeting.

The contest will stream on ESPN+ with live stats available at JSUGamecockSports.com. As always, JSU students and anyone age 18-and-under received free admission to all JSU home basketball games.
