Auburn Game Notes
JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State women's basketball team will bring its nonconference portion of the 2019-20 schedule to a close on Saturday when it visits Southeastern Conference foe, Auburn.
The Gamecocks (4-6) take on the host Tigers (5-5) at 2 p.m. inside Auburn Arena. The game will stream on the SEC Network+ platform with Auburn's Brit Bowen and Larry DiChiara on the call. Live stats will also be available at JSUGamecockSports.com.
After a strong showing at another SEC opponent at Vanderbilt in the season-opener, JSU has struggled recently including being held to a season-low 40 points in its last outing before Christmas to Jacksonville. The Gamecocks will look to get things moving in the right direction heading into Ohio Valley Conference play next week.
Graduate-senior
Destiney Elliott is coming off her second-straight double-double and leads the Gamecocks with 13.0 points per game, just ahead of junior
Taylor Hawks at 12.5 scoring average. Elliott, who had 20 points in JSU's road win over Ole Miss last year, has average more than 11 PPG in 12 career games against Power-Five competition.
In the post, redshirt-senior
Chloe Long continues to climb JSU's all-time rebounding list after matching a season-high with seven against the Dolphins last game. Despite the loss, Jax State pulled in a season-best 51 boards against JU on Dec. 20.
The JSU-Auburn series dates back to 1995 in Jax State's earliest Division I days. Saturday will be the 13th time the two schools have met on the hardwood. Auburn holds an 11-1 advantage in the series with JSU's lone win a 71-66 victory on Jan. 2, 2005. It was JSU's first-ever win over an SEC opponent, and remains one of three currently along with Alabama (2014) and Ole Miss (2018).
