EVANSVILLE, Ind. – On Tuesday, the Ohio Valley Conference announced its 2018-19 women's basketball All-Conference teams on the eve of the league's postseason tournament.
Â
Jacksonville State, which finished the season with a 9-9 mark in conference play and earned the seventh seed for the postseason event, received two All-OVC selections as voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. The voted recipients comprised three All-Conference teams, including a 10-member first-team All-OVC, a five-member second team All-OVC, and a five-member All-Newcomer team.
Â
Senior Rayven Pearson became JSU's first player to earn first team All-OVC honors in more than a decade. The Hazel Green, Ala., native, heads into tomorrow's OVC first round matchup against Morehead State as JSU's second-most leader in Division I rebounds with 837 to go along with more than 700 points during her career. This season, Pearson is averaging a double-double with 10.7 points per game and 10.1 boards. She finished the regular-season with 300 points, and led Jax State in rebounds, blocks, field goals and field goal percentage (.504).
Â
Â
Elliott, a former two-time All-Southern Conference honoree in her first two seasons at Samford in 2015 and 2016, was voted onto the five-member All-Newcomer squad after leading the Gamecocks in scoring in her first season on the floor for the Red and White. Her 321 points featured four 20-point performances, including last Saturday's win at SIUE to help clinch a postseason berth. The Oneonta, Ala., native, started all 29 games for Jax State and averaged more game minutes than any Gamecock on her way to a team-best 11.1 points per game average, and the team's second-most rebounds with 153.
Â
Â
JSU faces second-seeded Morehead State (22-9) at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in the opening round of the 2019 OVC Basketball Championships at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.
