BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference announced its weekly honors on Monday, awarding both Setter of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week awards to a pair of Jacksonville State Gamecocks.
Â
Junior Lexie Libs collected her third setter honor of the season after pacing JSU's offense to a .308 combined hitting percentage in the first week of league play. The Floyds Knobs, Ind., native dished 89 assists total, with consistent 45 and 44-assist performances. On Wednesday, she led JSU to one of its highest team hitting percentages in program history with a .398 mark in the opening conference win over Tennessee Tech. She followed that up with a near triple-double on Saturday after a career-high 10 kills to go along with her 44 assists and seven digs.
Â
A large portion of the Gamecocks' high-powered offense last week was sophomore Lena Kindermann, who's been named the OVC's Offensive Player of the Week. It's the first time the Neuenkirchen, Germany, native, has received the offensive distinction in her career, after being tabbed Newcomer of the Week once during her freshman season. Kindermann leads the OVC with a .350 hitting averaged following .545 and .341 clips last week. Her team-high 14 kills against TTU were her 10th double-digit kill match of the season, following immediately by a season-best 20-kill effort against UT Martin on Saturday.
Â
Libs, Kindermann and the rest of the Gamecocks will be back in action at Pete Mathews Coliseum on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. against Eastern Kentucky, and against on Sunday for a 12 p.m. match with Morehead State.
