Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Henry garners second OVC Newcomer of the Week honor

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the second week in a row, Jacksonville State men's basketball junior Kayne Henry has been named the Ohio Valley Conference's Newcomer of the Week, as announced by the league Monday afternoon.

In two contests last week, the transfer from Northwest Florida State totaled 30 points, 24 rebounds, was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line and snagged a double-double.

Henry earned his third double-double in four games Saturday during the Gamecocks' 72-51 win over Morehead State. He scored a career-high 23 points along with a single-game best 16 rebounds in the victory over the Eagles. He was 9-for-13 from the field and hit all five foul-shot attempts. On the defensive end, he threw in two blocks and two steals.

Against Eastern Kentucky on Thursday, the forward managed seven points and eight rebounds despite a loss to the Colonels.

Over his last four games, Henry has tallied 68 points, 52 rebounds and three double-doubles. The stretch includes setting five new single-game personal records in major categories, including points scored, baskets scored, rebounds, free-throws made and minutes played.

With his 16 rebounds against Morehead State, Henry became the first Gamecock to grab 15-or-more rebounds in a game since '19 alum Jason Burnell had 15 against Murray State on Jan. 31, 2019.

Henry shares this week's newcomer honor with Eastern Illinois' George Dixon.

The Gamecocks continue their homestand Thursday, Jan. 30 against Tennessee State. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
