JSU Softball Drops Two on Saturday at Bash At The Beach

CONWAY, S.C. – Jacksonville State suffered a pair of tough losses on the second day of the Coastal Carolina Battle at the Beach on Saturday.

The Gamecocks dropped a 10-inning battle with Northern Illinois, 16-15 to start the day and then fell 13-6 to College of Charleston to wrap up Day Two of the three-day tournament.

In the opener, the Gamecocks racked up 21 hits to score their 15 runs and sent the game into extras with a two-run rally in the seventh, but the Huskies plated two runs in the home half of the 10th to walk off with the win.

Junior Keeli Bobbitt led the way with three hits, while senior Alexus Jimmerson, freshman Megan Fortner and junior Jada Terry each had a pair of doubles in the game.

Both teams scored two runs in the first before a seven-run third saw JSU pull out to a 9-2 lead. NIU answered, scoring six in the home half to cut the deficit to one. The Huskies eventually pulled ahead with a four-run fifth, but Fortner's two-run double tied the game and sent it into extras.

The two exchanged runs in the eighth and then JSU scored one in the 10th, only to watch the Huskies walk off on a two-out single from Katie Keller in the home half of the 10th.

Five JSU pitchers threw in the game, with redshirt freshman Macy Bearden (0-3) suffering the loss. She allowed four runs, just two earned, on 10 hits over 5 and 1/3 innings of work. She came in and settled the game down when NIU's offense was on a roll.

Delaney Ostrowski (2-2) also settled things down in relief, earning the win after giving up four runs, two earned, on eight hits in 4 and 1/3 innings.

In the nightcap, a big fourth inning for College of Charleston did in the Gamecocks for their second loss of the day. After, JSU cut a 5-0 deficit into a 5-4 game with a one-run third, the Cougars scored eight runs in the fourth to break the game open.

Sophomore Karsen Mosley drove in three runs and belted a two-run homer in the loss, while Maddie Clay drove in two runs.

Hannah Brown (1-2) suffered the loss for the Gamecocks after surrendering five runs, three earned, on five hits in 2 and 2/3 innings of work. Summer Jenkins (1-1) earned the win in relief, holding JSU to two runs on one hit and a walk n 4 and 1/3 innings in the circle.
