HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team earned its fourth win in a row Friday afternoon with a 6-1 victory over Southern Mississippi.

The Gamecocks (9-1) won the doubles point and five of the six singles matchups over the Golden Eagles (6-5).

Jax State got on the board first by winning the singles points 2-0.
Aljaz Kaplja and
Thomas Norwood won 6-2 at No. 2 over Alexander Gima and Matthieu Peres, and
Guillermo Agost and
Jordi Blanchar won over Vence N'Tcha and Christopher Cahour with the same score at No. 3.
Joaquin Vallejo and
Sergio Lizarraga's match at No. 1 went unfinished when JSU claimed the point.

Jacksonville State went on to win all but one singles match, and only Kaplja's win at No. 5 went to three sets. The Radomlje, Slovenia native remains the only undefeated Gamecock to have played more than five matches this season. He downed Antoine Androine 7-6, 3-6, 10-5 at No. 5.

Agost earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Gima at No. 1. The senior improved to 5-2 overall with the win, with all seven contests coming in the first position. Meanwhile, Vallejo won 6-0, 6-4 over Hsiang Yi Wang at No. 2 to push his record to 7-1.

Jax State newcomer
Dmitrii Vasilev won 6-4 in both sets against Cahour at No. 4, and Blanchar rounded out JSU scoring with a two-set win over Emilio Bowen at No. 6. The Gamecocks' lone loss came at No. 3 as Peres defeated Norwood 7-5, 6-2 to hand the sophomore his first loss of the season.

Jacksonville State returns to action Wednesday, March 11 to host Kennesaw State. The match against the Owls is set to begin at 3 p.m. at the JSU Tennis Courts.
