JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to West Alabama in its season opener Saturday afternoon.

Despite sweeping the doubles point and
Harriet Hamilton taking the first singles contest, UWA won four consecutive to go ahead 4-2 and claim the match. Senior
Malin Buechner salvaged the final point of the afternoon, winning in straight sets over the Tigers' Daryna Hukasian.

The Jax State women return to the court Thursday, Jan. 28 with a trip to Alcorn State. The Gamecocks' next home match is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. against Auburn University at Montgomery.

The JSU men were scheduled to host West Alabama on Saturday, as well, but the match was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols with the UWA program. The men return to action at Alcorn State on Jan. 28, as well.
