ATLANTA, Ga. – Jacksonville State collected a pair of ASUN Football Player of the Week honors after the Gamecocks knocked off Stephen F. Austin in the AQ7 opener last Saturday.
Junior Malik Feaster and redshirt freshman PJ Wells were honored by the conference for the weekly ASUN Defensive Player of the Week and the ASUN Freshman of the Week respectively. Both Feaster and Wells played key roles in JSU's 28-24 Homecoming win over the Lumberjacks.
Feaster played havoc on the SFA offense all day as he accumulated a career-high 11 tackles, forced a Lumberjack fumble that led to an early Gamecock touchdown and sealed the game with an interception on SFA's final drive. He also broke up a pair of Lumberjack passes.
Wells led the Jax State receivers with four catches for 71 yards, including a key 25-yard catch on third down to keep the game-winning drive alive. He averaged 17.5 yards per catch in the contest. Wells has been a main target for the Gamecocks over the last three weeks with a pair of touchdowns in two of the last three games (UY Martin and Kennesaw State).
The Gamecocks are idle this weekend and will return to action on Oct. 23, visiting top ranked Sam Houston in Huntsville, Texas. Kick off is set for 2 p.m.
