
JSU Women Finish Ninth at Palmetto Intercollegiate

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team wrapped up its fall portion of the 2021-22 schedule at the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Tuesday, finishing ninth.
The Gamecocks used a final-round 304 to finish a 54-hole score of 886 on the par-72. 6,005-yard Turtle Point Golf Course, and hung on for a top-10 finish. North Florida won the event by 11 shots over second-place South Florida. JSU opened play with rounds of 289 and 293, respectively, in the 16-team field.
Sophomore Berta Sanchez led the Gamecocks, finishing tied for 23rd out of 87 players. The native of Barcelona, Spain, opened her 54-hole tournament with an even-par 72 before a second-round 73 and a final-round 75 capped her total score of 220. Sam Houston's Zulaikah Nasser claimed medalist honors with a 10-under 206.
Senior Ana Perez Altuna tied for 28th for JSU, thanks to a 54-hole score of 222. The Buenos Aires, Argentina, native carded a 2-under 70 in her opening round on Monday and then shot rounds of 73 and 79 to finish her tournament.
Junior Claire Vermette's 223 tied the St. Petersburg, Fla., native for 32nd. Her tournament was highlighted by two rounds of 73 that were sandwiched around a second-round 77. She climbed 13 spots on the leaderboard with her final-round score in tough conditions.
Freshman Libby Kilbride tied for 55th with a 54-hole score of 230. The Sheffield, England, native turned in rounds of 74-73-83. Senior Valentina Curet rounded out the JSU lineup with a score of 233 (82-74-77) that tied her for 69th.
