STATESBORO, -Ga. – The Jacksonville State women's basketball team defeated South Carolina State, 75-43 to close out the GATA Turley Throwdown hosted by Georgia Southern. Four players scored in double-figures as senior 
Kennedy Gavin led the team with 16 points and 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
The Gamecocks improve to 4-2 on the year with the win and have won three of their last four contests. South Carolina State drops to 0-6. 
Sophomore 
Keiara Griffin scored 12 points and added a career-high 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Senior 
Kaiya Burnett added a career-high 13 points while shooting 5-of-5 from the floor and 3of-3 from three-point range while freshman 
Shaquice May totaled a career-high 11 points, including three made three-pointers.
JSU opened the first three minutes on an 8-0 run to lead the Bulldogs early. May drilled a three-pointer with 16 seconds remaining to push the Gamecocks to 23 points in the quarter, the highest mark this season. Jax State led the Bulldogs 23-13 at the end of the first.
In the second period, the Gamecocks kept the foot on the gas and extended the lead to 16, following back-to-back three-pointers from May and Burnett less than two minutes in. South Carolina State cut the lead to 14, 35-21, just before half.
Out of halftime JSU outscored the Bulldogs 11-2, leading 46-23 at the 4:23 mark in the third. With 0.2 seconds remaining in the third, freshman Bre'Anna Rhodes added a point from the free-throw line, giving JSU a 54-33 advantage.
Following a quick free-throw from the Bulldogs to begin the fourth, the Gamecocks responded on a 7-0 run, capped with back-to-back layups from 
Shawnta Shaw, to push the lead to 27, 61-34. After a pair of Bulldog free-throws with 2:41 to go, Burnett drained a jumper in the paint and drilled her third three of the afternoon to put the Gamecocks up 32, 73-41. Rhodes gave the Gamecocks their largest lead of the game, 75-41 with just 56 seconds to go, following a layup.
JSU shot 39.5 percent from the field and 25 percent from beyond-the-arc.
Saturday's game marked the first time four players scored in double-figures this season.
The Gamecocks outrebounded the Bulldogs, 48-38 and 21-12 on the offensive glass. Jax State dominated in second chance points, 18-7 and held a 36-18 advantage in the paint.
The bench for JSU added 33 points in the contest while South Carolina State's bench managed just nine points. 
JSU returns to Pete Mathews Coliseum on Tuesday Nov. 30, to host Young Harris College at 6 p.m.
