BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Following its second-straight weekend sweep to open the 2021 spring season, the Jacksonville State volleyball team has been honored with multiple Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honors, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Â
For the second consecutive week, senior setter Lexie Libs has been tabbed the OVC setter of the week after dishing 90 assists (12.86 aps) over both Gamecock wins on Sunday and Monday at Southern Illinois Edwardsville. She also recorded 12 digs and added a pair of blocks as she grabs the weekly honor for the ninth time in her career at JSU.
Â
Libs set the table for JSU's offense to hit .310 over its seven sets at SIUE, helping junior Lena Kindermann earn Offensive Player of the Week, and freshman Courtney Glotzbach voted Newcomer of the Week. Kindermann, who earned the honor once last year and was the newcomer selection once in 2018, led JSU with 37 kills and a .492 hitting clip. Her 22 kills in Sunday's tight match propelled JSU to the four-set win, finishing three shy of her career high.
Â
Behind Kindermann, Glotzbach put down 29 kills against the Cougars while hitting .451 in the first road matches of her career. The New Albany, Indiana, native, hit .618 with a career-best 17 kills on Sunday, and followed it up with 12 on Monday for her fourth-straight double-digit kill performance to open the season. Glotzbach becomes the first Gamecock to be selected as OVC Newcomer of the Week since Kindermann in October of 2018.
Â
JSU had three Gamecocks selected for OVC weekly honors in the same week for the first time ever. While it's received multiple winners in the past under the current award structure, JSU last swept the weekly honors on Sept. 19, 2005 when Abbey Breit (Offensive) and Kisha West (Defensive) won the league's only two honors at the time.
JSU travels to Tennessee State this weekend for the third weekend of OVC play.
