JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State's Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium will be a busy place this weekend with winter weather wreaking havoc on the early baseball season schedule.

After JSU's season-opening series at Baylor in Waco, Texas was canceled due to the severe winter storm that has swept across the state of Texas this week, head coach Jim Case has secured three other teams to play a round-robin style tournament this weekend on the JSU campus.

The Gamecocks will open the 2021 campaign on Friday, Feb. 19 against Southern Illinois at 4 p.m.  In-state foe Alabama State and Ohio Valley Conference rival Tennessee Tech will join JSU and SIU on Saturday and Sunday.

TTU and SIU will be the first of three games on the docket for Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.  The Golden Eagles were scheduled to host the Salukis in a three-game weekend set, but due to the icy conditions in the state of Tennessee, the two clubs will face off in Jacksonville.  Jax State and ASU will follow that contest at 2:30 p.m.  The Hornets and Golden Eagles will wrap up the day with a 6 p.m. first pitch.  ASU was planning on opening the season in New Orleans at the MLB Classic.

On Sunday, SIU and ASU will have a 10 a.m. start time, followed by JSU and TTU at 1:30 p.m. to close out the busy opening weekend.

All three JSU games will be streamed on ESPN+, while all six games can be followed via live stats at JSUGamecockSports.com. Tickets will be $10 per day and the box office will open one hour prior to the start of each day.
