BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Jacksonville State junior Katie Montgomery has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Â
Montgomery, a 6-foot-2 middle blocker from Idaho Falls, Idaho, is in her first season with the Gamecocks since transferring from Southern Utah. She's the second-straight Gamecock to earn the weekly honor after freshman Courtney Glotzbach was selected the previous week.
Â
JSU took six-straight sets from the Lady Tigers of Tennessee State on the road Sunday and Monday. Overall JSU has won its last 10 sets, including three road sweeps over SIUE and TSU. Montgomery hit above .300 and finished with the third-most kills behind Glotzbach and Lena Kindermann. In addition to her offense, she led Jax State in both aces (6) and blocks (5). She also picked up five digs to make her presence felt throughout the weekend.
Â
Montgomery and the Gamecocks share the top spot in the OVC right now tied with Morehead State at 6-0 on the season. JSU returns home for the first time in three weeks this Sunday to face Tennessee Tech in the first of two weekend matches.
