
Goad Leads JSU on First Day of OVC Rifle Championships

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Jacksonville State rifle team stands in third place at the 2021 Ohio Valley Conference Rifle Championships after the smallbore portion of the two-day event on the Morehead State campus.
The Gamecocks fired a 2290 on Saturday in the smallbore and will need a solid outing in air rifle on Sunday to climb the team standings. JSU enters Sunday's competition 16 points behind Murray State. The Racers posted a 2316 in smallbore. Jax State will be looking to repeat as OVC air rifle champions as they claimed that portion of the 2020 event. Morehead State sits in second place after a 2304.
JSU was led by junior Owen Goad's round of 577 and finishing in the top-10 on the individual scoreboard. Junior Michael Dietz and freshman Kim Jettenberg each fired a 572, while junior Mackenzie Van Patten and senior Sam Payne rounded out the JSU score with a 569 and 566 respectively.
Murray State's Matias Kiuru registered the top smallbore score to claim medalist honors.
