KENNESAW, Ga. – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team dropped its first match of the season Sunday, falling 4-2 to future ASUN foe Kennesaw State.
Â
The Gamecocks (2-1) made quick work of the Owls (1-2) in doubles action, but KSU rolled through singles competition to take four of the six available points.
Â
Jordi Blanchar and
Guillermo Agost won 6-3 at No. 2, and
Joaquin Vallejo and Maj Tomas won 7-5 at No. 3 to win the doubles point.
Aljaz Kaplja and
Thomas Norwood saw their doubles set go unfinished so singles play could begin early.
Â
Jax State didn't fare as well in singles, dropping four of six to the Owls. Tomac salvaged JSU's lone point of singles competition, earning a 6-2, 6-1 win in straight sets over Daniel Botti at No. 5. KSU won at No. 1, 2, 3 and four. Blanchar led 6-5 in the third set of his match at No. 6 with Gaston Muhammad before the contest came to an end.
Â
Jacksonville State looks to bounce back Wednesday against another ASUN foe in North Alabama. The Gamecocks host the Lions at 2:30 p.m. at the JSU Tennis Courts.
