MOREHEAD, Ky. – Following a 15-1 championship-caliber season, the Jacksonville State volleyball team was well represented in the Ohio Valley Conference postseason awards and all-conference teams announced Wednesday.
Â
The Gamecocks led all teams with four First-Team All-OVC selections, the most all-conference honorees of any kind for JSU since 2009. Senior Lexie Libs was tabbed first team for a third-straight season, while junior Lena Kindermann earned the honor for a second-straight year. Newcomers Katie Montgomery and Courtney Glotzbach also made the list in their debut seasons within the league.
Â
Montgomery, a 6-foot-2 middle blocker transfer from Southern Utah, had the fourth-most kills for JSU with 114. Her efficient .371 hitting percentage tied Kindermann for a team-best and second-overall in the OVC. She leads the Gamecocks with 49 blocks heading into the Thursday's tournament opener.
Â
Along with her first-team honor, Glotzbach, a true freshman from New Albany, Indiana, has been named the OVC Freshman of the Year. She had a 3.40 kill per set average, registering 153 kills behind a .335 hitting clip that was fourth-best across the conference. The outside hitter also collected 18 blocks.
Â
Following a standout season at the net, Kindermann, a 6-foot-2 outside from Neuekirchen, Germany, was selected as the league's Co-Player of the Year. One of the best hitters already in the conference, exploded for 230 kills during the 16-match regular season, including a career-best 26 in a win over Morehead State last weekend. She added 37 blocks defensively as a force on both sides of the net. She split the award, by virtue of votes from OVC head coaches and sport information directors, with MSU's Olivia Lohmeier.
Â
Rounding out the postseason accolades, Floyds Knob, Indiana's Lexie Libs has been tabbed the OVC Setter of the Year for the second-straight season. She led Division I volleyball midway through the spring in assists per set, and led the hottest offense in the conference to a .305 regular-season hitting clip. Her 602 assists this season move her past 3,000 for her career in the Red and White.
Â
Now a back-to-back winner, Libs remains to only Gamecock to win OVC Setter of the Year for the award that originated in 2015. Kindermann becomes JSU's first Player of the Year since All-American Abbey Breit won the award three-straight years from 2005-2007. For Glotzbach, the freshman's lone season in the OVC will go down in the record books as JSU's first Freshman of the Year since Brittney Whitten in 2006.
Â
"I'm really proud of all of our award winners," said head coach Todd Garvey. "It speaks highly of them as players, but it also speaks highly of their teammates. Our motto all year has been #WeOverMe. I believe that has been a big reason for our success. We all know that we are much better together than we would be individually and that everyone has had a big part in our success."
Â
The Gamecocks open their final OVC Tournament on Thursday at 3 p.m. EST/2 p.m. CST against Southeast Missouri on ESPN+.
