CLARKSVILLE – The Jacksonville State soccer team came up short in a flurry of second half goal in a 4-3 double overtime loss at Austin Peay on Tuesday afternoon.
It's the second overtime contest of the season for the Gamecocks (0-3), who are in the midst of a three-match road trip. The third of three straight matches away from the JSU Soccer Field will be Tuesday, March 16 in Richmond, Kentucky against Eastern Kentucky. APSU picked up its first win of the season.
APSU's Ashley whittaker turned in the game-winning goal after 101 minutes of action.
After a scoreless defensive struggle in the first 45 minutes and with both team combining for nine of the 27 total shots in the match, six goals scored over the next 30 minutes. The Govs took the first lead in the 55th minute with a goal by Isabel Petre.
Jax State quickly responded with two goals within a span of three minutes. Sophomore 
Cynthia Bagozzi netted her second goal of the season in the 65th minute. Senior 
Alicia Pallister was credited with her first of two assists in the match. Freshman 
Kylie Wells gave JSU the lead in the 68
th minute with an unassisted goal.
APSU regained the edge 11 minutes later with the go-ahead goal in the 79th minute. Hannah Wilson connected on the Govs third goal of the second half.  With just under five minutes left in regulation, Jax State sophomore 
Briana Eads posted the game-tying goal with help from Pallister on one of the five JSU corner kick chances.
The Gamecocks dominated the numbers with 17 total shots, including 11 in the second half. Both clubs had one look at goal in the second overtime period.
"Our forward play was excellent, and I felt like they scored against the run of play," said head coach 
Neil Macdonald. "I am proud of the effort. They are heartbroken with the result, but they need to keep their heads up because they are playing great soccer."  
Ida Cederberg turned in a match-best five shots, including three on-goal opportunities. Wells added four shots and Eads finished with three in the setback.
The EKU match will get started at 1 p.m. CST.
