ATLANTA – The Gamecocks were a point away from pulling off a win against Georgia State on Sunday, but the Gamecocks fell 4-3 in a tight nonconference match at the Horseshoe Bend Country Club.

Jax State (8-6) trailed the Panthers (13-5) 3-2 as
Guillermo Agost squared off against Andrei Duarte at No. 4. After dropping the first set 6-2, the Gamecock senior rallied back to win the second 7-5 to force a deciding set. Despite an extended battle, Duarte came away with a 7-6 third-set win on a 7-3 tiebreaker to earn GSU its fourth point.

Moments later,
Maj Tomac earned a three-set victory over Harvey Maughan at No. 2 to close out the match and hand JSU its third point. The win was Tomac's ninth of the season, tying him for the team lead with
Joaquin Vallejo.

The Panthers went up 1-0 to begin the match with a pair of doubles wins. JSU salvaged one set win with Tomac and Vallejo earning a 6-4 win at No. 3 over Mihai Marinescu and Vazha Shubladze. The JSU duo are now an impressive 11-2 in doubles play this season with all 13 sets coming at No. 3.

Aljaz Kaplja took straight sets from Kevin Huynh at No. 5 and
Jordi Blanchar won 7-5, 6-2 over Steven Huynh at No. 6.

With the road portion of their schedule complete, the Gamecocks return to the JSU Tennis Courts for their final two matches of the regular season. Jax State hosts Tennessee State on Saturday, April 17, and wrap up the season Sunday, April 18, against Belmont.
