LEXINGTON, Ky. - After standout seasons leading the Jacksonville State volleyball team to a second-straight Ohio Valley Conference championship, senior Lexie Libs and junior Lena Kindermann have received all-region honorable mentions.
Â
The AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) added Libs and Kindermann to its North Region seven-player honorable mention list. The AVCA North Region is a tough district comprised of the American, Big Ten, Horizon, Missouri Valley, OVC and Summit League conferences. National front-runners Minnesota and Nebraska claimed 10 of the 14 all-region spots.
Â
Libs, a 5-foot-9 senior setter from Floyds Knob, Indiana, directed one of the hottest offenses in conference history as the Gamecocks hit .295 for the year. The hitting percentage ranks ninth in the nation, while JSU's league-best 14.73 kills per set is the fourth-best in average in Division I volleyball behind New Mexico State, Kentucky and Western Michigan.
Â
Individually, Libs finished with 673 assists during the spring conference-only schedule, ranking eighth in the nation with 11.60 assists per set. She led the NCAA in APS for multiple weeks during the season. Her Gamecock offense finished with three of the top four hitters in the OVC led by Kindermann.
Â
A 6-foot-2 junior outside hitter, Kindermann led the Gamecocks with 255 kills. Her .361 hitting percentage was second in the conference behind teammate Katie Montgomery's .365 clip, and ranked 57th in the nation.
Â
Along with rising-senior Kindermann, Libs plans to return to JSU per Covid-19 waiver for next fall as JSU heads to the ASUN Conference following back-to-back, and eight overall, OVC titles since 2003. This marks JSU's first AVCA postseason accolades since 2007 when Abbey Breit was tabbed All-Region and honorable mention All-American for the third time. Â Â
