AUBURN, Ala. – The Jacksonville State baseball team dropped its first extra inning contest of the season after Auburn scored the winning run in the tenth inning to claim an 8-7 decision..
After a leadoff double by AU's Judd Ward and a sacrifice bunt, Tyler Miller singled to left field to drive in the winning run. The extra inning contest dropped the Gamecocks to 18-18 overall and will now turn its attention to a critical Ohio Valley Conference weekend series against Morehead State on Rudy Abbott Field at
Jim Case Stadium this weekend.
Jax State used the home run ball to send the game into extra frames after the Tigers broke a 5-5 deadlock to take a 7-5 advantage in the seventh inning. Freshman
Derrick Jackson, Jr. crushed a ball over the tall left field wall to start the eighth inning, followed by a leadoff home run by senior
Jaylyn Williams in the ninth inning. Williams' home run capped off a three-hit, three RBI night for him in five plate appearances. The Greenville, Mississippi native was a double away from hitting for the cycle as he collected a triple in the second and scored JSU's first run and had an RBI single in Jax State's four-run third inning.
Senior
Tre Kirklin added a multi-hit game with two singles, while junior
Cole Frederick had a pair of hits and an RBI in the setback. Redshirt junior
Alex Carignan plated a pair of runs on two sacrifice fly balls in his first two at bats.
Jax State had a quality start from sophomore
Isaiah Magwood with three innings of work. Magwood was one of six JSU pitchers to get some work during the midweek contest. Junior
Dylan Hathcock worked 1.2 innings and posted three strikeouts.

Corley Woods and
Austin Downey all saw action in the game.
The series with the Eagles of Morehead State is scheduled to start on Friday at 6 p.m., but weather concerns over the weekend may force alterations to the three-game series.
